Our purpose
Since its beginnings in 1906, the IEC’s work has provided the foundations for a connected and sustainable world through facilitating and enhancing broad electricity access, clean energy solutions and international trade. IEC International Standards and Conformity Assessment (CA) Systems ensure the safety, efficiency, reliability and interoperability of electrical, electronic and information technologies. They help us achieve our vision of a safer and more efficient world for everyone.

As I reflect on 2024, I am reminded that our work is not merely about what we achieve, but why it matters. In an era of accelerating climate disruption and technological transformation, the IEC’s mission to ensure the safety, efficiency and reliability of electrotechnical technologies through standardization is more vital than ever.
