are powerful tools to realize our strategic vision, but to achieve this they need to remain relevant, accessible and a driving force in global markets. This is why we are on a digital transformation journey, investing in new technologies and systems to open up new possibilities for our members as well as new services and solutions for the benefit of standards makers and standards users worldwide. This involves not only transforming the way standards are developed and delivered but also ensuring the digital landscape is human centric whilst enabling automation.
At the IEC, we believe in the power of international standardization to address many of the world’s global challenges. To be effective, however, standards must remain at the centre of society, which is why we are defining the whole digital standardization and conformity assessment ecosystem through Smart.
Together with ISO, the joint programme is aimed at ensuring standards remain relevant and accessible in the digital age to continue to address the needs of society and the environment.
Leveraging new and emerging technologies such as AI and capitalizing on today’s data-driven, interconnected environment, Smart delivers agility, efficiency and innovation to bring tailored, user-centric standards and conformity assessment services and solutions to market. It does this across the entire value chain, from production to usage of standards and conformity specifications.
This means our experts will develop fully digital content with the integration of Smart into OSD. This will offer our members the possibility to provide customized products and services, addressing the needs of end users and industries. 2024 saw the establishment of the framework for the Smart ecosystem in advance of it being available to members in 2025.
Towards the end of 2024, we held the first IEC/ISO Smart Conference, bringing together IEC and ISO members and technical experts to provide updates, discuss challenges and share insights and experiences in order to advance the programme effectively.
